A free server for your calendar, tasks, contacts and notes. If you are tired of Google having its nose in everything, you can move your calendar here.
Getting started
- Create an account at caldav.rpix.dk, and confirm your e-mail.
- Log in to the server itself at caldav.rpix.dk/dav. Here you can create a calendar. Or a to-do list. Or an address book. Or a notes collection.
- Point your calendar app at the server.
Calendar and tasks
Your calendar app can most likely fetch calendars from the internet. On the front page of caldav.rpix.dk you can see which programs and apps work, and how to set them up.
Enter the server caldav.rpix.dk, and log in with your username (the e-mail address you signed up with) and your password. Then choose the calendar – and possibly the to-do list – you want to use.
If your app cannot find the calendars, use the full address: https://caldav.rpix.dk/dav/.
Contacts
The same goes for contacts: if your mail or contacts app can fetch contacts from the internet, just enter the server, username and password.
Notes
There are not many note apps and programs that can share notes over the internet. So I made one for Android that can. You can get it from both Google Play and F-Droid: DavNotes.
And with an account on caldav.rpix.dk you can also read and write your notes in the browser with WebNotes.
Your account, your data
Under My account on caldav.rpix.dk you can delete your account, and if you have forgotten your password, you can get a new one. If you delete your account, all your calendars, contacts and notes are deleted from the server right away.
Passwords are only stored as encrypted hashes.
Behind the scenes
The server is Radicale, a small open source server for CalDAV and CardDAV. The account portal is a small PHP app I wrote, which handles sign-up with e-mail confirmation, resetting forgotten passwords and deleting accounts.
