Follow me on the water
Live tracking of my kayak and SUP trips: follow along on the map while I am on the water โ and see the earlier trips afterwards.
Live tracking with history
"Follow me on the water" is the latest version of what grew into mitspor.dk. It was built by hand over a long time, and it is a project I am quite proud of. The page is in Danish.
How it works
The technique behind this version is that I keep a GPS app running in the background on my phone, and it saves and uploads a GPX file once every minute. The website refreshes itself once every minute, and the new GPX file is loaded. In principle it is not very efficient to read the whole GPX file every time the page refreshes, but it all happens so fast that it makes no difference in practice. It is more than fast enough.
At first the page had a live view. You could see the current speed, distance and average, and you could see moving time and moving average. Later you could also choose earlier trips.
Then came AI
But then came AI... And it is quite insane how good ChatGPT and Claude are at coding, and it is downright silly to insist on doing it yourself when they can do it so quickly and well โ much better than I will ever be able to.
And when AI entered the picture, you could move the marker back and forth along the route, so you can see speed and more on the different parts of the trip.
And then Pandora's box was open... โ the rest of the story is MitSpor.
